The cover shows a beautiful areal view of the delta region in Africa with plentiful vegetation a snake like rivers. The colors are earthy and the title is very big a covers the middle of the picture without taking away form the glory of the picture. Articles include the mission to save Africa's Okavango Delta which is the main focus in the magazine. Other articles are more focused on animals and it does contain a few articles talking about social and cultural problems. The article of the Okavango Delta is appear towards the back of the magazine on page 67 of 82 and in between each bigger article is advertisements for cars, movies, food, restaurants, and more. The table of contents contains a diverse set of images. It shows people protesting for some articles and moves to the landscape pictures of their more animal based articles. This first magazine from "National Geographic" shows a man on a boat attempting to clean the water with an eerie fog and very gloomy earthy colors. The text doesn't draw away from the cover picture, but their is a generous amount of space to fill in blank spots with text. The text fills in the picture nicely leaving a clean, crisp look. Articles include the one concerning the pollution of Chesapeake Bay, the Gulf, and other bodies of water. They talk about how debris from the water can spread to land during harsh weather or by transportation form animals. These articles are usually separated by adds and volunteer projects including coastal and park cleanups. The larger, more important articles are subjected to the middle of the magazine approximately 30 pages in and 20 pages from the back. I am going to be focusing on magazines containing environmental pollution articles. The first one i found was "TIME The Poisoning of America".The cover shows a cartoon boy with half his face in the water half of his face out that takes up the whole cover. underneath the water the toxic waste turned his face to bone while above the water his face is fine but there's debris all over the shore. Out of the water there is very bright and vibrant color schemes while in the water it is very dark and gloomy and shows skeletons of fish swimming around. Another magazine I have looked at includes "Discover" and "National Geographic". They include articles about environmental disasters and weekly checkups on such things as climate changes and percentages of pollution in certain areas. I have decided to go with working on a magazine rather than a film due to certain reasons. I feel as though the time and detail that would have to be put into a film would be too overwhelming for me to control and still succeed. I don't have much time in school or after due to extra curricular activities and homework so I would lack in time to film. Even though i like the emotion that films can portray, I do believe that words can present more information. My magazine will have informative content. It is not going to be a gossip magazine similar to Nina Howard's "Take Down Piece" from Newsroom . I will be working alone to complete this project since I like to have everything my way and know what is going on and to ensure quality of the content. I will be very focused on zoning in on pure facts and unbiased data. Film production has a wide variety of factors that can ruin the film or make into a successful hit. The fact that one mistake while filming could ruin a whole production makes me very interested in the art of film work, but can also make it very challenging to succeed at. I love that with filming you can show a lot more emotion than writing. The imagery and sound that is involved with film also adds to people's sensory pleasure. It would be challenging to create good transitions and appeal to a wide variety of audiences, but as long as you can come up with a good theme and and idea, appealing to your audience would be easy. Writing seems to get very cluttered and keeping track of dialogue would be challenging foe me. However, the factor of weather, setting, time, and actors good be hard to match to the scenes on different days of filming. There are many aspects of journalism that I find spark my curiosity, but some of those aspects could make writing a magazine very challenging for me. One thing that I fond over in journalism is the processes of observing what you're writing about. For instance if you are doing a piece on a specific person I find it very interesting to observe them and find information for the piece you are working on. I like the thought that you can write about what you want and that some of the things you write about could be very important or mean a lot to people, including yourself. However, the writing part of this project would be a bit of a challenge considering I don't excel in writing, but with some hard work I could overcome that problem. I also don't feel as attached to writing due to the fact that i do not sense emotion through word on a piece of paper or a website.
